note to self: replacing the font your terminal is currently using in-place has a very high chance of infelicitous results
01:21
<&McMartin>
INFELICITY

<&ToxicFrog>
Oooookay, underline wackiness fixed

<@macdjord>
Good news: Memtes, no errors.
02:09
<@macdjord>
3 full passes found no issue.
02:09
<@macdjord>
Bad news: I have no clue what else it might be.
02:12
< Mahal>
Examine the event viewer.
02:12
< Mahal>
Have fun
02:12
<&ToxicFrog>
macdjord: GPU memory or heat?
02:12
<&ToxicFrog>
Youtube video decoding is hardware accelerated these days.
02:12
<@macdjord>
ToxicFrog: Possible. How do I test for that?
02:12
<&ToxicFrog>
At a guess, fire up something like Furmark that puts the GPU under load and see if it goes foom
02:20
<&McMartin>
If you've got Win10, Win10's task manager has a performance tab that shows GPU usage by process
02:30 * McMartin attempts to explain lambdas and promises to an intern in 15 minutes
02:30
<&McMartin>
I suspect this won't stick, but it will at least point the first steps on each path
02:34
< Mahal>
Good luck~
02:37
<&[R]>
lambdas are nameless one line functions. Promises are values you'll assign in the future, attempting to use them before they are set will block the thread. Certain implimentations might do something different, but the "value not set yet" holds true.
03:06
<&McMartin>
Right
03:06
<&McMartin>
Now, does that translate to "can use the asynchronous callback-based API he was asking about, being previously unaware of both concepts"?
03:18
<@macdjord>
McMartin: Problem is this happens appearently randomly after hours of use, and once it freezes I have no way to open up the manager and see what it was.
03:18
< Mahal>
This is why I suggest event manager, it might show things after the fact
03:19
<@macdjord>
Mahal: I shall try that next time it happens.

McMartin (re: fonts): specifically, the best case is that every time you type a ligature the tty gets super confused about what it should be displaying and where the cursor is, and the worst case is that it segfaults instantly.

"fc-match <font> will tell you what font will be used in practice. You might think that’s what fc-query does, and you’d be wrong. fc-query‘s primary use is to produce bizarre error messages when you accidentally use it instead of fc-match."
