What's a good reference for graph plotting in Python? I may have to adapt some stuff to it from MATLAB.
15:49
<~Vornicus>
I've never actually drawn graphs straight from Python
15:51
<~Vornicus>
I usually go to postscript for that, or excel in simple cases.

Course requirements. :(
15:52
<~Vornicus>
You might want to grab PIL then, or possibly write to svg.

Oh, nyah. It's probably not even a wave, the thing I'm doing. Wanna make a 2D hair renderer. It's ... let me do a picture!

Real hair isn't, but the anime hairs maybe!
16:00
<~Vornicus>
So you're looking to make that thing kind of... flounce?
16:03
< Janus>
Maybe! The wave thing would only be used to determine the constraints from one node to another though. Like... the angle and distance from one to the next is gathered by the direction the head's facing. Then those constraints are solved from the root node to the last node. Then I should have a 2D path I can just trace a brush on.
16:04
< Janus>
I never shade hair, so the actual drawing part is thankfully uncomplicated.
16:06 * Janus looks up flounce. Oh!

Hair is one of the most complicated things to model. THere's hundreds of thousands of loose strands.

16:40
<~Vornicus>
"I don't think the math is all that involved", he says, as I poke around at PDEs and vector calculus.
16:49
<~Vornicus>
More seriously: hair becomes (nonlinearly) less strong the further from the root it is; it has a preferred orientation relative to nearby points along the hair; it's under the effects (globally) of gravity, (locally) of the pieces of hair around it and (at a simgle point) of its connection to the scalp.
16:50
<~Vornicus>
there's elasticity and damping, and a myriad of forces involved.
16:58
< Janus>
I think anything like wind, gravity, and motion can be combined so there's only one force vector to deal with per node. (how they're combined though, would depend on the weight/drag at that node though) Then from root to tip, it's just a repeated process of nodes trying to keep up with their parent. I could get away without having hair collide with other things thankfully, I think.
16:59
< Janus>
I think... the distance from node to node will be inelastic though. Any 'bounce' would naturally come about from hair strands straightening out from any forces, then rebounding into their natural curled shape
16:59
< ErikMesoy>
