06:02
< CalaveraJoe>
Ooh, Soren and Mantisking in here. I think that's a personal first.
06:03
< FlakManiak>
I was recently given mod powers in another community. What a heavy cross to bear. Mantisking et al, I salute you.
06:05
< CalaveraJoe>
Modding can be such a pain in the tuckus
06:11
< CalaveraJoe>
*sigh* I hate putting together bricklink orders
06:13
< FlakManiak>
Do you have the cost minimizer scripts?
06:13
< FlakManiak>
With those BrickLinking is so much easier.
06:13
< FlakManiak>
Still takes a while and is a pain, but much easier.
06:14
< CalaveraJoe>
The who what now?
06:15
< FlakManiak>
So there's a guy over on Brickset, called atxdad. This guy made some MatLab scripts that find minimum cost solutions for lists of parts.
06:15
< CalaveraJoe>
Also, it's strange to me to be digging around brick link and /not/ be searching for travis bricks
06:15
< CalaveraJoe>
Very interesting
06:15
< FlakManiak>
The scripts work in Octave (the open-source MatLab equivalent) and don't require really any MatLab/Octave knowledge to use.
06:15
< FlakManiak>
They take files made by BrickStore.
06:15
< FlakManiak>
(Which is a program used for doing BrickLink logistics and stuff.)
06:15
< CalaveraJoe>
*nod*
06:16
< FlakManiak>
The scripts can only find solutions with up to three vendors or so, and can't take into account shipping, minimum buys, or other stuff like "buy this part in multiples of a hundred".
06:16
< FlakManiak>
Only list prices and number available in BrickLink stores.
06:16
< FlakManiak>
But it's still incredibly useful.
06:17
< CalaveraJoe>
I can imagine
06:17
< CalaveraJoe>
I need to actually do a proper inventory of my lego
06:17
< FlakManiak>
And of course sometimes you have to know that putting part X in will mean you get gouged on really common parts because it has to find everything, so sometimes you have to break things up into multiple uses.
06:17
< CalaveraJoe>
Living close to two different Lego stores means I tend to pick up a lot of parts, hehe
06:17
< FlakManiak>
Or you have to know which version of a part is more plentiful and thus which to choose.
06:17
< FlakManiak>
(But BrickStore can tell you how many of a given part are available used/new/whatever on BrickLink)
06:17
< CalaveraJoe>
But there are some things I'm definitely in need of, like plates for IO
06:18
< FlakManiak>
Anyway, basically just go on Brickset and PM atxdad asking for the scripts and he'll oblige. The thread about them also has a bunch of tech support for 'em.
06:18
< CalaveraJoe>
Good to know, I'll take a look once I've re-done my wanted / wish list of parts
06:19
< CalaveraJoe>
I keep going back and forth on whether or not I want to bother with the system tracking strips / plates
06:19
< FlakManiak>
The one thing you might need to know is how to navigate directories with a command line (in Octave) unless you put everything in the folder Octave starts in by default.
06:19
< CalaveraJoe>
You know, where folks use 1x1 plates or tiles to keep track of systems, either on the model itself, or on a separate plate
06:20 Mantisking [NSwebIRC@Nightstar-rg9mk7.ma.comcast.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 121 seconds]
06:20
< CalaveraJoe>
Since that necessitates a whole lot more parts (specifically a pile of different colored 1x1 plates or tiles in a bunch of colors)
06:22
< CalaveraJoe>
Command line won't be a problem. Grew up on dos, hehe
06:23
< FlakManiak>
Okay then you should be good to go probably. I think there were a couple weird things about the scripts but if you just RUN_ALL every time it works fine.
06:27
< CalaveraJoe>
Hrm. Do I really want to order headlight bricks when I have more travis bricks than I will likely ever use?
06:28
< FlakManiak>
Headlights are a distinctly different function.
06:28
< CalaveraJoe>
Yeah
06:28
< FlakManiak>
I use lots of headlights in weaponry.
06:28
< CalaveraJoe>
*nod*
06:29
< FlakManiak>
Very good for switching from those handle bricks to the body of a weapon.
06:29
< CalaveraJoe>
Good point
06:30
< FlakManiak>
Also part of the standard gun I use, next to a handle brick but not connected.
06:31
< FlakManiak>
(The one based around this part: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4360)
06:32
< FlakManiak>
Which in turn is derivative of one of MittenNinja's weapons.
06:32
< CalaveraJoe>
Gotcha
06:33
< FlakManiak>
Headlights are also important for Chubs. Though not as much for super Chubs.
06:33
< CalaveraJoe>
As iconic as the chubs are for mf0, they've never been my favorites
06:33
< CalaveraJoe>
Can't pin /why/, just never have been
06:43
< CalaveraJoe>
Hrm. Wonder if Soren's using the 4 x 4 cone for the base of the stands for all of the ships he's done for IO so far
06:43
< Soren>
Thinking about it, why?
06:43
< Soren>
I mean, itās what Iām using o the current models.
06:44
< CalaveraJoe>
Putting together a parts wishlist
06:44
< CalaveraJoe>
And I really like how sturdy that seems to be, and since axles are available in every length ever, it's easy to change the height easily
06:44
< Soren>
Exactly.
06:44
< Soren>
That was the logic behind it.
06:44
< CalaveraJoe>
Just wasn't sure if you'd be doing that for the smaller ships that only have a 4x4 base
06:45
< Soren>
Oh, for the frigates Iām using a 2x2 cone.
06:45
< Soren>
Itās just capships.
06:45
< CalaveraJoe>
There's a 2 x 2 with an axle hole?
06:45
< Soren>
No.
06:46
< CalaveraJoe>
Ah, okay, hehe
06:46
< Soren>
Itās using a 1x4 antenna.
06:46
< Soren>
I wish. But that would be silly.
06:46
< CalaveraJoe>
So this for the base then http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3942c
06:46
< Soren>
Yup.
06:47
< CalaveraJoe>
If I'm recalling right, I think I literally have a sandwich sized ziploc bag /full/ of the antennas, lol
06:47
< Soren>
Yep.
06:47
< CalaveraJoe>
They showed up in one of my PaB walls a while back
06:47
< Soren>
Theyāve been in PaB here too.
06:47
< CalaveraJoe>
Of course, black travis bricks showed up at both of them, too
06:48
< CalaveraJoe>
Which I was just /floored/ over
06:48
< Soren>
I got fewer, but the principle is the same.
06:48
< Soren>
yeah
06:48
< Soren>
I filled a bag of those. If theyāre still there Iām getting more.
06:48
< CalaveraJoe>
Like, the one at Downtown Disney had two whole PaB wall bins of them
06:48
< CalaveraJoe>
I may have filled two large cups with them, using 1x1 rounds for the fiddly ring at the bottom
06:48
< CalaveraJoe>
>.>
06:48
< Soren>
hee.
06:48
< Soren>
I was using 1x1 round tiles.
06:49
< Soren>
Which i also have a bag of.
06:49
< CalaveraJoe>
At the time, I think I had all the 1x1 round tiles of the colors they had in abundance
06:49
< CalaveraJoe>
I have a disney premium pass, so I get a discount at the downtown disney lego store
06:49
< CalaveraJoe>
Which means that every other time or so that I go, I get more parts
06:49
< Soren>
As soon as more colors show up, Iām snagging them, for sure. I got a bunch when the part first came out.
06:50
< CalaveraJoe>
Yeah, I've picked up a PILE of purple stuff recently
06:50
< CalaveraJoe>
My plan is to eventually have enough stuff for three full companies, both RA and IO
06:50
< Soren>
Excellent.
06:50
< CalaveraJoe>
I probably have most of that now, tbh, I just need to build
06:51
< CalaveraJoe>
But I'm tired of showing the game to friends, having them be super excited, and then flake because building a kit can be a pain
06:51
< Soren>
Yeah. Well, Iāve going to try very carefully not to completely drain Bricklink of good parts.
06:51
< CalaveraJoe>
*snicker* Though I should really take a picture of my pile o parts some time
06:52
< FlakManiak>
I need to start running games. I have eleven companies that need to see some action. Okay maybe only seven of them are ready for battle.
06:52
< Soren>
Iād be amused. Iāve gone from having everything sorted to having a lot of unsorted stuff, so I have some work to do over here.
06:52
< FlakManiak>
But still.
06:52
< CalaveraJoe>
https://plus.google.com/110180653096622832042/posts/dT182rddEpk
06:52
< CalaveraJoe>
Yeah. I... sorta let things fall behind. I had, like... 8-10 large PaB wall cups filled with parts that I had to sort out
06:53
< CalaveraJoe>
Thankfully, I tend to fill those in layers and buy in bulk, so some of the cups were just 2-3 different parts
06:53
< Soren>
Yeah, thatās how I do it.
06:53
< CalaveraJoe>
I figure that 1500 +/- Travis bricks /should/ be enough for a good while
06:53
< Soren>
And I avoid large parts unless theyāre rare.
06:54
< Soren>
That should settle things, yeah
06:54
< FlakManiak>
Speaking of draining BrickLink of good parts, I got a lot of the 1x8 bar with brick with curved top things in clear (the flight stand part) a while back. I only felt slightly guilty for getting so many. But now I can put tons of guys in the air whenever I feel like.
06:54
< CalaveraJoe>
With the christmas boxes, I've been known to sit there and clip together stacks of 1x2 bricks so that the box is filled /solid/
06:54
< Soren>
I sunk a bunch into building pine trees with olive green 1x1 slopes, but Iāve got a good 600 still.
06:55
< CalaveraJoe>
I recently picked up an asston of sand green cheese slopes
06:55
< CalaveraJoe>
For, I dunno, terrain or something, lol
06:55
< Soren>
YOu can always trade āem around.
06:55
< CalaveraJoe>
Flak: Which piece is that?
06:56
< CalaveraJoe>
Argh! Maintenance!
06:56
< FlakManiak>
Exactly. I'd have linked the part.
06:56
< FlakManiak>
Those big cannon things. First appeared in Star Wars sets I think?
06:57
< CalaveraJoe>
Soren: Not sure if you saw my post about baseplates, but it basically boils down to the 4 x 4 plates being cheap enough that even for four it's less than one 8 x 8. I'm thinking it'll be the most economical way to go for bases in IO since they can all be broken down to 4 x 4 multiples
06:57
< Soren>
I didnāt, but that makes sense.
06:58
< CalaveraJoe>
Flak: The ones they used with the pod racers and such? I think those ones were like dayglo orange or summat
06:58
< Soren>
I miiiiiiiight be buying plates in the relevant sizes just to keep it easy on myself, though.
06:58
< CalaveraJoe>
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71F0TNSZRNL.gif the BRIGHT orange ones holding the pods on here: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71F0TNSZRNL.gif
06:59
< Soren>
FIguring out what to do with those is always frustrating.
06:59
< FlakManiak>
Yes those guys. That part, in clear.
06:59
< Soren>
Iāve been using them for ramp and bridge rails.
06:59
< CalaveraJoe>
Soren: Yeah. I go back and forth. The 8 x 8 plates start around 20 cents a pop and ramp up quick if you want any reasonable quantities of them
06:59
< Soren>
In black, yeah
07:00
< CalaveraJoe>
Flak: Yeah, I want to get a bunch of those to use as risers as well
07:00
< Soren>
I recall dark tan and tan being reaosnable, or seeming that way a coupe years ago.
07:00
< FlakManiak>
Tons of sand green cheese slopes? Nice! I'd love to find those on a wall!
07:00
< Soren>
couple*
07:00
< Soren>
I think I needā¦ 20 8x8 plates, though, so.
07:01
< CalaveraJoe>
Starts creeping up to like 50-55 cents each for black at that point (unless you want to one off them from a bunch of places)
07:01
< CalaveraJoe>
I pondered finding the /cheapest ones possible/ and then vinyl dying them, lol
07:01
< Soren>
Nah, thatās not a savaings at all.
07:01
< Soren>
savings*
07:01
< CalaveraJoe>
Yeah
07:01
< Soren>
(the one-offing, yes.)
07:01
< Soren>
The other option is just 4x4s and 4x8s
07:01
< CalaveraJoe>
Yeah
07:02
< Soren>
Which would match what Iām doing right now anyway, and is the most likely.
07:02
< CalaveraJoe>
Especially with the 4x4 cone base, that's not too bad, too, since that'll take a lot of the structure up
07:02
< CalaveraJoe>
I've seen 4x4 in PaB walls, too, I just wasn't looking for plates at the time or I would have spent half an hour scaling the inside of a cup with them, hehe
07:03
< Soren>
IF it shows up in mine, Iāll get a cupful.
07:03
< Soren>
Probably useit.
07:03
< CalaveraJoe>
I also thought about using these for bases on bigger ships http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=6222
07:03
< CalaveraJoe>
Might work for smaller ones, too, since it's lower than the cone
07:04
< FlakManiak>
Hmm. I guess given I have tons of potential flight stands, a normal person might make IO ships. But... Spaceships don't do it for me. I just can't get excited about IO. But that's fine I suppose.
07:05
< CalaveraJoe>
Off the top of your head, for IO, what's the max number of individual models for a fleet? 5?
07:05
< Soren>
maaaybe. Iād worry about anchoring something on one axle with that.
07:05
< Soren>
Um.
07:05
< Soren>
I assume 7, as in the regular game.
07:05
< CalaveraJoe>
Actually, looks like 11
07:06
< Soren>
I assume Joshua will clarify.
07:06
< CalaveraJoe>
for a 2 player game, 5-8 tactical assets + 3 HVAs
07:06
< CalaveraJoe>
According to the .3 rules anywho
07:06
< Soren>
ah, yeah
07:06
< Soren>
well, I have no concrete information more current than that.
07:06
< FlakManiak>
Hmm. This game size talk reminds me that I should make three more frames for each of my favorite companies, so I can do a 2P battle at full strength.
07:07
< CalaveraJoe>
Assuming one were to go loco, and using only 4 x 4 base plates to make the different sizes, that would be . . . 3 + (8*4) = 35 plates, lol
07:10
< CalaveraJoe>
Though those can be had pretty inexpensively, so that's nice
07:10
< Soren>
Yeah, my only concern is having things come apart while you move them.
07:11
< CalaveraJoe>
Yeah.
07:11
< Soren>
Also, I might lose out just because of the volume.
07:11
< Soren>
Weād be talking about a hundred plus, most likely.
07:11
< CalaveraJoe>
Yeah
07:11
< CalaveraJoe>
I'm looking, probably, at around 100 total 4x4
07:11
< Soren>
maybe several hundred. It could get batshit fast.
07:11
< CalaveraJoe>
Which looks like it can be had, US even, for 4-5 cents each
07:13
< Soren>
not bad.
07:13
< CalaveraJoe>
White plates 8 x 8 , for a lot of 500 of them, run 2.15 a pop
07:14
< CalaveraJoe>
If you drop the lot size to 250, you can find green ones for as little as 74 cents
07:14
< CalaveraJoe>
Which is still a chunk of cash
07:14
< Soren>
yes.
07:15
< CalaveraJoe>
And also /green/
07:15
< CalaveraJoe>
The 4x4 plates, I found a person with several /thousand/ of them, in black
07:16
< CalaveraJoe>
for either 7.9 cents or 10.9 cents each
07:16
< CalaveraJoe>
Which isn't too shabby
07:16
< Soren>
Nice, yeah.
07:16
< Soren>
Care to share?
07:16
< CalaveraJoe>
http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=Legos_For_All&wID=320318&wantedIDarray=3506 0548
07:17
< CalaveraJoe>
Hopefully that'll link correctly for you
07:17
< CalaveraJoe>
Hrm, goes to the shop
07:17
< Soren>
The shop does.
07:17
< CalaveraJoe>
Part is 3031
07:17
< Soren>
Yeah, Iām good here
07:17
< Soren>
Thanks, though.
07:18
< CalaveraJoe>
I mean, sure, it's still nearly $800 in just 4 x 4 plates, but that's better than over a thousand for only 500 white plates
07:18
< CalaveraJoe>
Jebus this lady has a lot of bricks
07:18
< Soren>
This might be a person i know, in the Bay Area.
07:19
< CalaveraJoe>
That'd be helpful, you might be able to arrange for pickup
07:19
< CalaveraJoe>
Save on shipping
07:19
< Soren>
Mm.
07:19
< Soren>
Anyway, hang on a sec.
07:19
< Soren>
I have to math.
07:21
< CalaveraJoe>
I shudder to think of the parts hell you have to manage at the end of the KS
07:22
< Soren>
Ah, yes, 200 will do nicely.
07:22
< CalaveraJoe>
That's not bad at all
07:22
< CalaveraJoe>
That should drop the cost, actually
07:23
< Soren>
IT does.
07:23
< Soren>
At least, it drops it a shitload on the back of my envelope.
07:23
< CalaveraJoe>
Though not per unit, it seems
07:23
< CalaveraJoe>
With a lot size of 200, the store I linked is still the cheapest game around
07:24
< CalaveraJoe>
You drop the lot size to 100, and you can shave off 2 cents per plate
07:25
< Soren>
Nope, it has to be 200.
07:25
< CalaveraJoe>
Saves you about two bucks, which probably isn't worth the split shipping, unless, of course, there's other stuff to be had
07:25
< Soren>
The customs and special editions will take 196 if I do the bases this way.
07:25
< CalaveraJoe>
Yeah
07:25
< Soren>
the extra four are barely worth mentioning.
07:26
< Soren>
Okay, Iām out for a while. Going to cuddle and watch a movie.
07:26
< CalaveraJoe>
Incidentally, I just took 5 of the 4 x 4 plates (I've got a dozen or so sitting around) and made an 8 x 8 out of them and its pretty sturdy stuff
07:27
< Soren>
Talk to you guys later, fi i pop back on.
07:27
< Soren>
if*
07:27 Soren is now known as Soren[away]
07:27
< CalaveraJoe>
Good chatting with you, take it easy Soren
07:27
< Soren[away]>
You too.
07:27
< Soren[away]>
Thanks for the heads-up.
07:27
< CalaveraJoe>
Of course
08:08
< CalaveraJoe>
Okay, I'm gonna skeeedaddle as well. Take it easy folks

< Ced23Ric>
Why is Joshua building "Spotting:The Game"?
15:55
< Ced23Ric>
Soren, Ray, answer me that. :D
15:56
< Ced23Ric>
Ray is not even here. Flakmaniak!
15:56
< Ced23Ric>
Soren is also not here.
15:56
< Ced23Ric>
Well, whatever.
16:14
< FlakManiak>
I'm not qualified to say whether MFZ is Spotting: The Game, but if it is I'm not sure that's such a horrible thing. Every company needs weapons, and if everyone needs spot dice that's probably okay too. I guess it's bad if every frame wants YY all the time.
16:17
< Ced23Ric>
Alright, allow me to expand.
16:17
< Ced23Ric>
The Y Ace spots with d6 + d8. Additive.
16:17
< Ced23Ric>
That is a peak of 14, and a mean of 8 spot.
16:17
< Ced23Ric>
Which is met by a peak of 6, mean of 3.5 defense.
16:17
< Ced23Ric>
That means you can a peak of 8, a mean of 4.5 hits.
16:18
< Ced23Ric>
Well, in peak vs. peak.
16:18
< Ced23Ric>
Worst case scenario is 20 hits.
16:18
< Ced23Ric>
It is Spotting:The Game.
16:18
< Ced23Ric>
Any fleet without a Y Ace will be at severe disadvantage.
16:20
< FlakManiak>
Oh this is about IO. I make zero claims about IO and will yield to yours.
16:20
< FlakManiak>
Also d6 +d8 spotting seems crazy.
16:20
< FlakManiak>
Additive is kinda terrifying.
16:21
< Ced23Ric>
Joshua decided to make the only additive mechanic in the game additive again.
16:21
< FlakManiak>
I'd challenge those mean numbers because you get multiple dice from which to draw your defense. (Or is that not so in IO?)
16:21
< Ced23Ric>
So it is now 1d6 vs 2d6+1d8 (or 1d6+2d8).
16:22
< Ced23Ric>
The mean of a roll doesn't change with the number of dice.
16:22
< FlakManiak>
Yeah even if we assume a lower than actual mean for the attack, that can be a mean of eight hits.
16:22
< Ced23Ric>
Well, mean is 3.5 vs 11.5 or 12.5.
16:23
< Ced23Ric>
So 8 or 9 hits.
16:23
< Ced23Ric>
Y Ace is oneshot Ace.
16:24
< FlakManiak>
Is damage on 5/6 like in RA?
16:24
< FlakManiak>
With similar system numbers?
16:24
< Ced23Ric>
And, no counter, because B Ace can only replace a B or assign when if it is 0.
16:24
< Ced23Ric>
Yupp.
16:24
< Ced23Ric>
So, 1/3 of the hits is damage.
16:24
< Ced23Ric>
In case of a Frigate, she'd be bare after one broadside.
16:24
< FlakManiak>
(I haven't read the IO rules so you might have to explain some of these things to me. Like how the blue ace works.)
16:25
< Ced23Ric>
With a little luck, oneshotted.
16:25
< Ced23Ric>
No worries.
16:25
< Ced23Ric>
B Ace has a d8 B.
16:25
< Ced23Ric>
On top of the normal d6 B.
16:25
< Ced23Ric>
All Aces add a d8 of their colour.
16:26
< FlakManiak>
This is the frame ace, right?
16:26
< Ced23Ric>
Now, Blue can assign or replace the Defense of any target within frame range - as in, 4 units.
16:26
< Ced23Ric>
Blue can use their d6, d8 or Whites to do that.
16:26
< FlakManiak>
So you would think blue would be able to add to the defense rather than replacing or assigning.
16:26
< Ced23Ric>
Yellow, though, has the full BYG completement and a d8 on top for spotting.
16:26
< Ced23Ric>
Both spots, d6 and d8, add.
16:27
< Ced23Ric>
They also spot at 8 units range, so ship-scale direct fire.
16:27
< FlakManiak>
Oh, does the yellow ace only get to add the d8, or if the d8 is a 1 or whatever, can the yellow ace use two 6s?
16:27
< Ced23Ric>
Can only add the d8.
16:27
< Ced23Ric>
BUT.
16:27
< Ced23Ric>
The d8 can be replaced.
16:28
< FlakManiak>
Oh so you can put a crappy d8 and a good d6 on someone, and then someone with a good d6 can replace the crappy d6, so two good d6s are there now?
16:28
< Ced23Ric>
That means two things - you can make a 1-2 punch, with two ships that cannot spot ... or you can shoot something else and replace that 1 with a better oll.
16:28
< Ced23Ric>
Yupp.
16:28
< Ced23Ric>
Yellow Ace is insane.
16:29
< Ced23Ric>
Red Ace gets an additional d8 Red, as if having two weapons. And can attack at 8 units range.
16:29
< Ced23Ric>
Fairly modest.
16:29
< Ced23Ric>
Because attacks aren't additive.
16:29
< FlakManiak>
Wait, by one-two punch, do you mean that you can spend just one of the yellow dice on a target when you attack it?
16:29
< Ced23Ric>
Yupp.
16:29
< Ced23Ric>
Using spots is always optional, not mandatory.
16:29
< FlakManiak>
You would think the red ace would give an additive die to be really sweet.
16:29
< Ced23Ric>
Yeah, but it is Spotting:The Game. ;)
16:30
< Ced23Ric>
Like, osh has a major hardon for spotting.
16:30
< Ced23Ric>
Yet claims to play with total casual jank armies.
16:30
< Ced23Ric>
Any serious wargamer I have shown the system instantly went with spot loaded armies.
16:30
< Ced23Ric>
Because spot's the king.
16:31
< Ced23Ric>
Green gets an additional d8 G, and can add 1 maneuver point to a ship's movement, if attached. They can also deny collisions or force them. And then can move through hostile frame companies.
16:31
< Ced23Ric>
So, tier list of aces:
16:31
< Ced23Ric>
Yellow, Red, Blue, Green.
16:31
< FlakManiak>
I've certainly been making spot-heavier companies for RA as I've thought about the system more.
16:32
< Ced23Ric>
Well, it's a toss-up between green and blue. Neither are attractive, but work as ablative wounds.
16:33
< Ced23Ric>
Blue errs on the side of caution, Green adds more station capping/kiting.
16:33
< Ced23Ric>
But in the end, both are just damage fodder.
16:33
< Ced23Ric>
Red is a mandatory enabler. 1 weapon suffices, 2 isn't necessary (you have SSR, too).
16:33
< Ced23Ric>
So, the question is, 1 or 2 Y?
16:34
< Ced23Ric>
And that's how I end up with the "Grunt", WW BYRdRd and the "Captain", WW BYYRdRd.
16:34
< Ced23Ric>
And then I add some support, in the form of WW BYYRaRa and WW BYRdRa (splitrange) and call it a day..

Time to punch these 5 pages of parts into BrickLink.
17:52

(I hate my life.)
17:52

nice! I just finished my "weekend"
17:52

Buuuut ... I want to build demo companies.
17:52

hahaha
17:53

A shipment of felt arrived today.
17:53

you know, I find that I don't use the wanted lists at all with bricklink
17:53

it's easier for me to just browse

Gonna sic my roomie's gf on it to cut it into circles.

Yeah.
17:53

you have to be pretty familiar with what you need, but I just feel it works better

17:54

I want to build these guys.
17:54
< Mantisking>
Sup, MN.
17:55
< Mantisking>
I saw those teams yesterday. Lookin' good.
17:55
< MittenNnja>
yeah looking good man
17:55
< Ced23Ric>
Should be a good enough selection and shows off stock frames.
17:56
< Ced23Ric>
I'll also field two companies of more advanced builds and some extras, to show what's possible.
17:56
< Ced23Ric>
And then some cover and I should be set.
17:56
< MittenNnja>
I'm going to sitting down with Dexter to figure out what kind of budget we have to build stuff for DCC so I can start putting together some companies
17:56
< Ced23Ric>
That reminds me, still have to order some dice.
17:56
< Ced23Ric>
Yeah, you got right into this, eh? :D
17:56
< Ced23Ric>
I am glad you are still around.
17:56
< Ced23Ric>
Sad we lost Kevin (afny).
17:56

sounds like you got this all figured out :)
17:56
< Ced23Ric>
Anyone still has any reach to that guy?
17:57
< Ced23Ric>
Well, I am the guy that overplans rather than wings things.
17:57
< Ced23Ric>
So, I need cover, frames, dice, surface, call ahead to the stores to schedule events, and so on.
17:57
< MittenNnja>
I haven't heard from him in ages, although I haven't tried to contact him directly
17:57
< MittenNnja>
don't forget rulers
17:58

Good point.
17:58
< Ced23Ric>
I'll grab three, I guess.
17:59
< Ced23Ric>
Also, one venue will be quite cool - the "C-Base". It's basically a nerd haven.
17:59
< Ced23Ric>
It's a bar, so there's smoking and booze, but also presentations, a crafting cellar, 3D printer, etc. pp.
17:59
< Ced23Ric>
They basically invite everyone in who wants to hang out and be nerdy.
18:00
< Ced23Ric>
So, I figure that might be a good venue to go (since I know the owner from playing a Google game together...)
18:01

19:35

I go through Travis bricks like water when I'm building frame companies. I guess vanilla Chubs take three each, but my samurai Chubs take seven, the flying orange super Chubs take five, my original black and white guys take eight on average, the red guys take ten, as do the sand green guys and the purple guys...
19:36

20:00

20:01
< Ced23Ric>

20:01
< Ced23Ric>
Still, fast and without any fault.
20:04
< Mantisking_>
That sucks.
20:05
< Ced23Ric>
There's other stores. :)
20:11
< FlakManiak>
My lowest-Travis company is my pirate Chubs at three per, minus one because of the peg leg, so fourteen total.
20:11
< FlakManiak>
And yes, Ced, I am insane. It takes a certain kind of insanity to build blue dragons and such.
20:12
< FlakManiak>
And more than that, to use the wing design further, which I have, though it is unphotographed.
20:12
< Ced23Ric>
Well ... the average Superchub has 5 Travis bricks.
20:12
< Ced23Ric>
And I have 16 of those flying around.
20:12
< Ced23Ric>
And then about 6 frames from Mitten Nina, which average to 5 Travis, too.
20:12
< Ced23Ric>
So, yeah.
20:12
< Ced23Ric>
I know all about it.
20:13
< FlakManiak>
Let me see. A blue dragon has four in the legs and two in the body. Four in the arms. So that's ten. Six in the wings and one in the wing attachment, so 17. And then three in the tail, because three tail segments. Also, two for the shoulders. So I lied. Twenty-two Travis bricks per blue dragon.
20:14
< Ced23Ric>
Yeah that is nuts.
20:16
< FlakManiak>
Really though the part count doesn't matter. That just inflates the price a little. The REALLY insane part is how fiddly the wings are to adjust. Each wing has nine axes of articulation. Three taps, which can be rotated up/down in their clip tiles, and can have their attached Travis bricks rotated back/forward, and one wedge plate per Travis. So getting a single pair of wings lined up nicely...
20:16
< FlakManiak>
Is a challenge.
20:16
< FlakManiak>
I don't bother to try to match wing positions between frames.
20:16
< FlakManiak>
Because that's way too impossible.
20:18
< FlakManiak>
On the 18th I get back from school... Hopefully soon after that I can photograph my secret projects, and the grey caped guys.
20:19
< FlakManiak>
Well, I did photograph one but I wasn't really satisfied with the photos.

< Mantisking_>
I try not to buy used.
20:31
< Mantisking_>
Ugh. Second topic I've had to split today.
20:33
< FlakManiak>
I usually just buy new. I certainly tell BrickStore to find new. But when looking through the stores that the cost minimizer finds, I sometimes get used parts while I'm browsing for what I need. I always check certain categories in the stores that the cost minimizer finds, because there are plenty of parts I'd like to buy, but that I don't necessarily need.
20:33
< FlakManiak>
And thus won't muck up my cost minimization with.
20:58
< Mantisking_>
I've been concentrating on ships lately. I should build a few frames to keep my hand in.
21:20
< Ced23Ric>
Alright.
21:20
< Ced23Ric>

21:20
