<@Reiv>
thefuck are you doing, herding electrons with tiny whips
03:33
<&McMartin>
Experimenting with a mid-1980s 16-bit computer, where C is actually reasonable but wasn't yet fully the default.
03:33
<&McMartin>
But it was inches from being ther.

And, like, I think this platform is the very first one where making OS calls is actually easier in C than in assembly language.
03:36
<&McMartin>
This includes both DOS and RISC OS.
03:36
<&McMartin>
... I guess not Linux, though tbh there it is a toss-up.

09:06 * gnolam sighs.

<~Vorntastic>
?
09:10
<@gnolam>
After diagnosing a problem as a piece of customer software writing locale-dependent decimal separators in the interop files (in violation of the spec for that format, and only for *some* values): "Will you handle this internally, or should I contact your devs?"
09:10
<@gnolam>
"We'll handle it."
09:10
<@gnolam>
Guess if they handled it?
09:13
<@gnolam>
Nyet.
09:15
<@gnolam>
Came back to me a week later going "uh, can you handle it on the client side?".
09:24
<@gnolam>
Where me fixing it required me to get in touch with their devs after all, because I needed confirmation on exactly how their software formatted its values (commas are also used to separate values, so the problem would become unsolvable unless I could make certain assumptions). They had never heard of the issue...
