gnarg. okay this is getting in my way. I have an active pull request on someone's github project. I'd like to proceed further in the same vague direction, but with the pull request still open I'm not sure technically how to proceed, since I will have to do significant work in a file I created in the pull request

<@sshine>
Vornicus, you could check out from that PR's branch?
18:00
<~Vornicus>
Not sure how you mean.
18:00
<@TheWatcher>
They'll be pulling the changes in the file as it was at the commit you put in the pull request - later commits shouldn't affect them.
18:01
<~Vornicus>
committing to the branch actaully gloms that onto the PR
18:01
<@sshine>
e.g. git checkout branch-awaiting-review; git checkout -b new-branch. when the branch gets merged, redo your current one on top of master.

I was working on https://github.com/exercism/tcl with a guy who had made a TON of exercises. because every commit touches the same config.json, even though they just add lines, they did so too close to one another, so submitting parallel PRs was a hell.
18:05
<@sshine>
(sorry; we started out with each of these exercises being in a single commit.)
18:09
<@sshine>
sorry, I think I'm adressing matters too practical.

<~Vornicus>
okay looks like I can't also futureproof that file so I won't need to mess with it again, it'll have many of the same problems as you mentioned for tcl
19:11
<~Vornicus>
but that's okay
19:13
<~Vornicus>
but okay just 'make a new branch', then I can proceed safely

19:45

I mean semantics are kind of important by definition no? ^^
19:50
< Emmy>
sometimes, though i think not always.
19:51
<@ErikMesoy>
Are you being anti-semantic?
19:53
< Emmy>
no, just anti.
19:57
<@sshine>
[R], maybe they meant that they don't care about the wording, or the particular details. not caring about the semantics is pretty much not caring about the content of the contract, as opposed to not caring about the syntax, or non-contentious wording, or the type of paper it's written on.
19:58
< Mahal>
maybe they want it written in advance so they can do a quick review & finalise it at the end of the contract

20:01
<&McMartin>
When people say "not caring about semantics" they mean "stop obsessing over what affect and effect *really* mean and only care about whether you will be understood"

23:58
<&McMartin>
Now that the retrospectives are getting written apparently last year people were saying that the hedge funds shorting the hell out of them was making their stock undervalued by like 90%
23:58
<&McMartin>
Which is very low compared to where it *right now* but also, uh, 10x is a lot!
