Haven't done math in a while, but given a^2 + b^2 = c^2, a=b, and c=360, a = sqrt(360^2 / 2), right?

08:42
<&[R]>
?
08:45
<~Vornicus>
yeah, a and b could also be negative
08:45
<&[R]>
This is me trying to figgure out the size of a square in a circle
08:46
<~Vornicus>
oh, then yes, a = b = sqrt(360^2 / 2) = 360/sqrt(2)

11:12 * gnolam sighs.
11:12
<@gnolam>
Ok, what have I broken now?
11:13
<@gnolam>
370 ΔE is... outright impossible.
11:20
<@abudhabi>
Square circle impossible or jumping to the Moon impossible?
11:29
<@gnolam>
Square circle.
11:30
<@gnolam>
It would be outside the given colorspace... despite being calculated within the colorspace.
11:30
<@TheWatcher>
I blame syloq
11:33
<@gnolam>
And found the answer: some important values were being overwritten in a conversion between APIs.
11:33
<@gnolam>
Leading to a surface that apparently reflected, uh, roughly 500,000% of incident light.
11:58
<&Reiver>
Hahah, oh goodness.
11:58
<&Reiver>
That would be... quite the material.
11:59
<&Reiver>
abudhabi: I am simultaneously impressed yet mildly infuriated just how straightforward and immediately understandable that disambiguation was.
11:59
<&Reiver>
Well done.

One of the first things I wish to do is change the filesystem structure, to facilitate importation of the library. However: I am not sure this change in particular will be accepted, and until the change is accepted or rejected, additional pull requests would, if I understand correctly, have to come in two forms: one that targets the original structure, and one that targets the updated structure.
12:21
< catalyst>
yeah, that feels like a tricky situation
12:23
< catalyst>
I'd probably work on a branch of the original structure and periodically merge my changes to another branch where I had the updated folder structure
12:23
< catalyst>
I wouldn't work on the new one until/if it was accepted
13:36
<@abudhabi>
Reiver: Haha.
13:39
<@abudhabi>
Brilliant pull request today: Reverting an off-hand bugfix by someone else because that bug was load-bearing.

you're welcome
15:51 * abudhabi debugs the house's electrical installation.
15:53
<@abudhabi>
So far I've discovered that 9 circuit breakers have unknown areas of responsibility, some instances of redneck repairs, one socket that burns circuit breakers instantly, and at least one electical outlet that isn't behind any circuit breaker I can find.
15:54
<&ToxicFrog>
Exciting.
15:57
<@abudhabi>
Indeed. I think my father and grandfather, who oversaw this, outsourced the original electrical design to some students. But then the house got expanded at least twice, and there are weirdnesses like putting sockets and outlets on the same loop in the additions.
15:58
<@abudhabi>
If everything is behind the main on/off switch (I hope) I might be able to put in some better solutions to some of the problems, like circuit breakers not reaching the inner node because there's a missing screw.
16:25
<~Vornicus>
but before I do any of this I need to unfuck my testing rig, gosh
16:38
<~Vornicus>
ok. not as elegant as I'd like, but it'll do.

eeeexcept now luajit doesn't work. moving it to program files has made it give off errors about procedure entry points when run from the command line.
17:24
<&ToxicFrog>
Exciting.
17:24
<~Vornicus>
double clicking still works! But command line usage, with or without %PATH% support, fails
17:45
<@gnolam>
abudhabi: sounds like top quality wiring. Like the one in my old apartment (the one that you stayed in), that was wired in some insane occult way so the stove could trip the GFI without actually cutting the power to itself. Or where one apartment could trip the main fuse for the entire floor without tripping its own (much smaller) fuse.
17:46
<~Vornicus>
gnolam: wait what the fuck that is ...well okay not *quite* as bad as the microwave that ran while open but it's pretty close
17:47
<@gnolam>
It also experienced random phase faults.
17:48
<@gnolam>
Oh, and if you touched something properly grounded, like your computer's chassis, and the radiator at the same time you'd get a painful electric shock.
17:48
<@abudhabi>
Haha.
17:48
<~Vornicus>
Fuck
17:50
<@abudhabi>
At least the wiring here isn't aluminium. As far as I know.
17:51
<~Vornicus>
okay that's just me being sloppy with the rig setup in the first place and not fixing it right. All right! Back in action,.
17:55
<@gnolam>
The university's old defunct student newspaper wrote an article called "Potential walk in [area]", where they walked around measuring voltages between various metal bits in those apartments. They actually managed to get up to 110 V between the sink and the kitchen radiator in one of them.
17:55
<~Vornicus>
dang
17:59
<@abudhabi>
Nice.
18:00
<&ToxicFrog>
I would much rather deal with aluminum wiring than what you're dealing with.
18:00
<&ToxicFrog>
(Indeed, both my current house and the one we're moving to are Al wired)
18:02
<@abudhabi>
I have X problems now. If it were aluminium, I'd have X+N problems, probably.
18:03
<&ToxicFrog>
Oh, definitely, there is no set of wiring problems I'that is made
18:03
<&ToxicFrog>
I'm aware of that is made better, overall, by having Al in the mix
18:03
<&ToxicFrog>
But given the either-or choice...
18:10
<@ErikMesoy>
I like how that's +N and not +1. >_<
18:12
<@abudhabi>
Haha.
18:13
<&ToxicFrog>
(Al wiring is not the terrifying fire hazard some people think it is for some reason, it just means you have to use Al-rated fixtures or properly terminated Cu tails, and you can't convert gauge-for-gauge with Cu)
18:28
<@abudhabi>
IME it's just unreliable due to the ends rotting, both necessitating endpoint replacements, and making them harder.
