Hm. I've got a Mint install, and I want to install Gnumeric at the latest release, not the years-behind version that comes standard with Mint's standard repos. Any way I could only get that upgraded, rather than make my entire system unstable? I don't *really* want to compile from sourcecode, though.

<@abudhabi>
Annoyingly, I also needed to build goffice from source.

And it doesn't work after it installs.

OK, I'm not sure how it works, but it works.

I compiled and installed the new version, it didn't run because of a misplaced library, so I copied the library, then it didn't work because of segfault. So I removed gnumeric via aptitude, then reinstalled it via aptitude, and now it works. And it's apparently using the new version's code, somehow.

It almost looks like some sort of Frankenstein's monster of a program.

aren't most decently modular programs? :P

I'm not sure why it still functions. It's almost like I plugged some broken bits in the new version with the old version's components, and it works.
