All for the low cost of your personal data being sold to China ^_^
08:47
<&Reiver>
(I did it anyway, but I'm under no illusions as to the trade on that one)

There's not much personal data they'll get from my gaming habits.
09:58
<&jerith>
At least, not the gaming habits that are visible through their platfrom.

10:07
<@TheWatcher>
I wonder if anyone in europe has used the EGS, and then filed a GDPR subject access request with Epic.
12:24
<&Reiver>
jerith: Provided you're happy with their scanning your computer as well, plus of course whatever information you allow it to collect during signup
12:26
<&jeroud>
I would expect to have seen a big stink if they're rummaging through people's computers for random stuff to ship home.
12:28
<&jeroud>
Also, their launcher isn't running except for when I'm grabbing a free game or (very occasionally) playing one of the free games I grabbed previously.
12:29
<&jeroud>
Information provided during signup is stuff that I expect to be public knowledge anyway.
12:31
<&jeroud>
Besides, I use a bunch of Google services on my phone that collect all sorts of information about me. And I don't trust Google/US any more than I trust Epic/China.
12:31
<&jeroud>
So that's the thing I'm *actually* worried about.

not quite :(
16:54
<&McMartin>
There was a big stink, IIRC, but it was people looking at what it looked at as opposed to what it saved/sent.
16:55
<&McMartin>
"OMG IT'S SCANNING YOUR REGISTRY" -> "it's checking your uninstall information to see which of its games are already installed" or something closely isomorphic to it

I put in a thing that fixed the area-zero triangles, but in doing so I have ended up with ... huh. giant evil faces that aren't the ones I know are evil.
17:07
<~Vornicus>
ok, that's ...surprising, I wonder what this one looks like. ...55 isn't even on my list of previously problematic ones, I wonder what I did

Keep an eye on [H]ardOCP Forums for notifcations of promos and free games, it's pretty useful.

It's also worth remembering that Steam does a full hardware and installed-software scan and does send the results to Valve, although it asks first.
20:02
<@Alek>
.... oh, that's gotta be quite the achievement. apparently the Daggerfall Unity remake uses the original game files and just converts it to work in Unity directly (apparently in realtime), they're not redoing the original code.
20:03
<~Vornicus>
wild
20:07
<@Alek>
I know right?
20:07
<@Alek>
nice that the original Daggerfall is free to download from Bethesda.
20:08
<@Alek>
they're not just redoing the graphics either, they're redoing the UI as well. freer movement, hotkeys instead of on-screen interaction, etc.

hrm. the Moonlighter and This War Of Mine free-collection link isn't free for me.... maybe it expired already?
20:10
<@Alek>
it was supposed to be through today, but possibly uses Chinese time in which case today is over for them already.
