<&jerith>
It's the first one I've had to "cheat" on this year.
10:48
<&jerith>
The "cheat" is to print out a visual representation of the solution state, perform an heuristic check on a property of the solution, and then return a hardcoded result.
10:49
<&jerith>
At some point (maybe over the weekend) I'll write some code to parse the solution state into text.
11:25
<&Reiver>
Not /strictly/ code, but I managed to 100% Hexcells tonight.
11:25
<&Reiver>
It is the first puzzle game I have ever beaten.
11:25
< Vorntastic>
The *cells games are pretty top
11:27
<&Reiver>
The point where they explain how to use guidelines for the Sudoku elements - already my least favorite aspect of the game - a full stage after you have to start dealing with the bloody things was a little egregious ¬¬
11:27
<&Reiver>
But otherwise... yeah, I enjoyed it muchly.
11:28
<&Reiver>
I've heard one should move onto the Hexcells Plus even though Infinite came before it, as it's not quite so well crafted
11:28
<&Reiver>
(And, uh, is a bit hard to 100% an infinite series of puzzles beyond cheevos, I guess)
11:50
< Vorntastic>
Hexcells I find leaves clues available too long
11:53
< Vorntastic>
Like it's possible for the game to figure out whether a clue can no longer help you at all. It should hide clues as you progress so you get less distracted by clues you've already finished with
13:02
<&jerith>
Yeah.
13:02
<&jerith>
That said, Hexcells and friends are great.
13:03
<&jerith>
Infinite's problem is that the puzzles are algorithmically generated, so they tend to be less interesting than the handcrafted ones.
14:49
<&ToxicFrog>
Vorntastic: IIRC they improved on that in later games.
14:58
<&ToxicFrog>
Reiver: yeah, Hexcells Infinite is ok if you've already finished base and Plus, but the puzzles aren't as high quality. I'd play Plus (and Squarecells) first.

<&McMartin>
Infinite includes a set of constructed puzzles as well, mind
17:46
<&McMartin>
The hardest puzzles in the series are at the end of Plus
17:46
<&McMartin>
IMO
17:47
<&McMartin>
Also if memory serves Infinite came after plus
