"It's so broken it doesn't just keep crashing; it's self harming through self-modifying code..."
00:07
<@McMartin>
(It's a little too willing to just give up on the outside world when the network is even slightly flaky, and then it just goes and sucks its thumb the corner, hiding from a cruel and uncaring world that isn't, after all, made of magical sparkle ponies)

Why are all hex editors so terrible?
20:50
<@Tamber>
?
20:54
<@ToxicFrog>
Tamber: XVI32 handles large files poorly and has no undo. HxD has no data inspector. Hexplorer is great for viewing but its editing tools are primitive compared to XVI32's and its UI was clearly designed by a programmer; Mitec Hexedit ditto.
20:54
<@Tamber>
Ah.
20:56
<@ToxicFrog>
I find myself using three hex editors for this project, often with the same file open in all three, flipping between them as I need different features.

<@TheWatcher>
What, you're not using emacs' hexl-mode too?~ *flrrd*
22:09
<@ToxicFrog>
"this" being "display of arbitrary binary data as 8-bit palettized images, using arbitrary palettes"
22:21 * Vornicus considers the kinds of tools he'd want in a hex editor.

< Vornicus>
