Um.

<@Derakon>
(The basic problem we have here, aside from writing different languages even though we both speak English, is that he's trying to follow a tutorial for character modeling when he doesn't know his way around the program at all)
04:14
< celticminstrel>
In other words, he should first find a tutorial for the program.
04:14
<@Derakon>
Or just experiment with it, like I did.

18:24 * Derakon mutters at wx, has spent over an hour now trying to figure out how to get these two variable-sized panels to have a sane default size without success.
18:25
<@Derakon>
Stupid "SplitterWindow"s.
18:27
<@Derakon>
...and, having logged onto IRC to complain about this, I immediately thereafter found the bit of code that controls this behavior.
18:28
< Namegduf>
Better than still not finding it, though.
18:29
<@Derakon>
Oh, sure. I was about to embark on a rewrite to excise all instances of SplitterWindows from the code.
18:29
<@Derakon>
(It's not like we're using them in a useful fashion anyway)
19:02 * Derakon eyes a feature he has tasked himself to develop, realizes that he has not come up with a valid spec yet.

Fortunately for him, the only bit that really needs to be parallelized already has been.
21:03
<@McMartin>
I think you mean "fortunately for you"
21:03

Fortunately for society, perhaps?

<@Derakon>
Well, fortunately for all of us, perhaps.
21:05
<@Derakon>
Fortunately for him in that he doesn't have to worry about his SAN saving throw, fortunately for me in that I don't have to worry about someone mucking up my codebase.
21:05
<@Derakon>
Well. The codebase I curate.
21:05
<@Derakon>
I declaim responsibility for most of it.
21:06
<@McMartin>
Well, in his case, he's openly saying "I would like to trade SAN for INT"
21:06
<@Derakon>
I don't know if he's actually aware of the extent to which OMX would hurt his brain.
21:15
< gnolam>
Please tell me there's no sebThread...
21:16
<@Derakon>
Oddly enough, none of the C/C++ source files have names beginning with 's'.
21:17
<@Derakon>
We do have omx_app, omx_frame, omx_savethread, omx_sockthread, and omx_swig, though.

21:30 * ToxicFrog finally manages to unfuck his revision history!
21:30
<@ToxicFrog>
I have to say, I was dubious about mutable history at first, but it is just so damn useful.
21:31
< Tarinaky>
How many children did you have to sacrifice at Linus' temple?
21:31
< Tarinaky>
Or did you opt for a goat?
21:33
<@ToxicFrog>
A chicken, actually.
21:36
< Tarinaky>
Rubber or live?
21:36
< celticminstrel>
Hehe.
21:44
<@ToxicFrog>
But yeah, it was actually kind of ugly - I could probably have done it in place, but I ended up creating a new repo, making a first commit, then fetching the commit history from the broken repo and using rebase -i to rewrite it.
21:44
<@ToxicFrog>
(I couldn't do this in the broken repo because rebase can't rewrite the first commit in the repo, which was itself broken, and I didn't want to risk hand-constructing a parentless commit)
21:44
<@ToxicFrog>
Then I just moved the fixed repo into place, replacing the broken one.
21:49
<@ToxicFrog>
This took a few hours of noodling around.
21:49
<@ToxicFrog>
On the other hand, without mutable history, it would have required fixing the broken import script responsible for some of the damage, then adding workarounds for the broken backend responsible for the rest, and then re-importing from scratch, which takes about two days.
22:23
<@Derakon>
Blergh, I cannot think today.
22:23
<@Derakon>
Brain no worky.
22:42
<@AnnoDomini>
You have the dumb.
22:55

No, I'm not making mistakes. I just can't push my brain to cogitate.
