< Derakon>
...dammit, that was so close to a great idea, too.
01:47
< Derakon>
I was going to implement the ability to mirror a pattern (two emitters doing the same thing, split down the middle) by rendering the emitter / bullets and then mirroring that surface and pasting it down again, then modifying the bullet collision detection.
01:47
< Derakon>
But the inflector ruins that, as do bombs.
01:48
<@McMartin>
Heh
01:50
< Derakon>
The problem with doing proper mirroring is that I have to propagate it down aaaaaaall the way to the code that evaluates expressions in the BML files, so it knows that e.g. "<direction type='relative'>-90</direction>" means different things.
01:50
< Derakon>
Or I guess I could just tell the bullets "Okay, you have a goatee."
01:50
< Derakon>
...no, that wouldn't work.

04:16
< Derakon>
Mirror Universe bullets have goatees.
04:16
<@Vornicus>
Yeah, I got that.
04:16
<@Vornicus>
I'm just trying to figure out how you put a goatee on a bullet.
04:19 * Derakon arghs, wants to make a platforming game. ;.;
04:19
<@Vornicus>
Bullets with goatees and legs?
04:19
< Derakon>
...
04:19
< Derakon>
That's just silly.

<@Reiver>
So, I'm looking into USB drives. Do I want one with U3, do I avoid it like the plague, do I wait until SmartDisk comes out, or do I get it and uninstall it anyway?
07:01
<@Reiver>
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U3 - it sounds like it's as much a blessing as a curse, though I do admire the idea behind it.
07:03
<@Reiver>
Also, I've not bought USB drives for so long... do I want one with a retractable plug? It seems to me that it'd be a bit fragile (But then I've only ever owned one-peice units with a cap, and then lose the cap in the first month.)
07:07
<@gnolam>
Well, what's it going to be used for?
07:08
<@Reiver>
Storing My Crap. Potentially also putting a couple programs on it.
07:11
<@Reiver>
But if I recall correctly, you can set most of them to not use registry keys anyway.
07:14
<@gnolam>
Most /useful/ programs come in a portable version anyway.~
07:15
<@Serah>
do I wait until SmartDisk comes out <- No. It probably won't be very compatible with the recieving end of the USB drive.
07:26
< Alek>
get one with a solid, slide-on cap.
07:26
< Alek>
not one of those flimsy click-on caps.
07:27
< Alek>
or better yet, a flip-cap of some sort.
07:29
<@Serah>
Well, I find that it's best just to get one.
07:30
<@Serah>
They aren't that expensive, and they won't die on you unless you mistreat them.
07:31
<@ToxicFrog>
U3 should be avoided; it's a pain in the ass to uninstall and is basically a shittier version of PortableApps.
07:32
<@ToxicFrog>
(and you have to uninstall it to reclaim that space - the partition it resides on presents as a seperate, read-only USB optical drive)
07:44
<@Reiver>
TF: Thank you. I will avoid the U3 enabled ones accordingly.
07:44
<@Reiver>
On reading about it, I had a feeling I didn't want it, but~

12:42 * MyCatVerbs goto! Twice!
12:43
<@MyCatVerbs>
Both forward, though. ^^
12:47
<@McMartin>
Exceptions?
13:19
<@MyCatVerbs>
McMartin: n... actually not a bad idea, but I begrudge the indentation, and the one that's going to actually be run is just a break from a doubly nested loop.
13:33
<@McMartin>
MCV: No, I meant, "You're using the gotos as exceptions?"
13:33
<@McMartin>
That being one of the three True Uses Of Gotos.
13:33
<@McMartin>
Labeled Break being another
13:33
<@McMartin>
And Poor Man's Destructors being the third.
13:51
<@MyCatVerbs>
McMartin: ah! Nah, if it was for exceptions I'd be using longjmp(). ;)
13:57
<@McMartin>
longjmp == resource leaks~
